 Dr. Chey is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Director of the GI Physiology Laboratory at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dr. Chey received his M.D. degree and training in Internal Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. He went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Michigan. Since completing his fellowship, Dr. Chey has remained at the University of Michigan where he has developed research interests in the diagnosis and treatment of H. pylori infection, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and the Functional Bowel Disorders.
Dr. Chey has received research funding for his work in the form of an NIH-CAP award, Glaxo Institute of Digestive Health Clinical Research Award, and Small Business Grants from the NIH. Dr. Chey recently served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the latest educational campaign on the Functional Bowel Disorders offered by the Digestive Health Initiative of the American Digestive Health Foundation. He has served as Chairman of the Nominating Committee of the Clinical Practice Section and is currently a member of the Nominating Committee of the EGD Section of the American Gastroenterological Association, Education Committee for the American College of Gastroenterology, and Informatics Committee of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has served on a number of abstract review committees dealing with H. pylori infection, GERD, and IBS for Digestive Diseases Week.
Dr. Chey has participated in numerous national and international CME programs in Gastroenterology. He has authored over 40 manuscripts and 11 book chapters and serves as a referee for numerous medical journals including ACP Journal Club, the American Journal of Gastroenterology, American Journal of Physiology and Gastroenterology.
